Neotame is an artificial sweetener made by NutraSweet. It is between 7,000 and 13,000 times more sweet than regular table sugar and is similar in chemical make-up to aspartame.
At one time it was thought that Neotame could be used in certified organic products, but that has since proved to be false. See the USDA letter here.

Possible Health Effects
While generally being recognized as safe, some neuroscientists have found brain lesions in animal studies, these scientists also believe that Neotame should be considered toxic and could be capable of causing cancer.
