Description

This vitamin is naturally found in a variety of oils. This essential antioxidant protects cells from the damaging effects of free radicals, which are molecules that might contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Of the two main forms, the natural form ("d-alpha") is more active and available to the body than the synthetic form ("dl-alpha"). Used as an antioxidant in oils to prevent rancidity and as a nutritional vitamin supplement.

The US recommended daily amount (RDA) is 15mg per day. Most vitamin E supplements are derived from soybean or other oils. Many studies have been done on tocopherols with claims of health benefits ranging including: Alzheimer's disease, age-related macular degeneration, prostate and breast cancer, glaucoma, heart disease and Parkinson's disease. Tocopherols are known by many names including: Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, D-Alpha-Tocopheryl, Acid Succinate, D-Alpha-Tocopheryl succiante, D-Alpha Tocotrienol, Mixed Tocotrienols, Vitamin E Acetate.
